Apparently after requests filed by its partners, Microsoft has shut down its "Get the facts" campaign website. This website was a platform for comparisons between Linux and Windows, which would show that Linux is more expensive when it comes to total usage costs than Windows products. However, most reports were either paid by Microsoft directly or through a client of Microsoft.
This made the website controversial among Open Source companies and advocates. They stated that you can never trust research that is not independent. The research itself, they claim, is full of critical issues which benefit the outcome of the Windows products and thus were unfair.
A Microsoft spokesperson has said "It turns out people wanted 3rd party validation in addition to people’s experiences making OS purchasing decisions so in addition to customer case studies, research reports that compare platforms the site will also offer guidance around best practices, web casts, etc."
