The North American hd-dvd promotiongroup has released sales numbers of stand-alone hd-dvd players. When players used inside computers and gameconsoles are not counted, the total sales exceed 100.000, which is more than competitor blu-ray has sold.
However, if gameconsoles are taken into account, blu-ray has sold more thanks to the Sony Playstation 3 with build-in blu-ray player. Both new optical standards utilizing a blue laser instead of a red laser, fight for dominance in the digital battlefield. However neither has managed to gain the upper hand, although both camps regularly release numbers suggesting their superiority over the other camp.
The first hd-dvd players hit the stores exactly one year ago. Prices have since dropped, but the least expensive player is still retailed for 399 dollars.
Which standard do you prefer, blu-ray or hd-dvd?

I hope bluray will win, because they have much higher capacity on the disks, up to 200GB with multiple layers i heard. HD-DVD also uses a blue laser?

At this point i do not care. Using opticals was fine 6 years ago, but now big harddrives and phat internet pipes have deminished the need for high-storage opticals. For backup you better get an external DAS/NAS harddrive backup anyway.
