Hi Enlightenment,

OK, I am new as well so a small introduction.
My real name is Rob, 46 years young and I am a technical guy (electronics).
One of my hobbies is computering and I am trying to setup a NAS with an old PC.
Searching for a solution (not found it yet) on how to switch off my PC to save energy when not using the NAS was how I came here.
Goodluck with the article, I am looking foreward to it :\) .

Bye, Rob.

Hi Rob, welcome to fluffles.net! It's not that popular yet but i'm sure that will come once it's officially launched (with articles available).

In the mean time if you need help with your NAS please open a topic in the storage forum. You might be interested in both powerd/cpufreq to save power on your CPU and in ataidle, which puts disk drives in idle/standby mode if not used after x minutes. Then they will spin-down and consume only 1W instead of 8-10W. With many disks this can save quite a bit of energy, and also means less heat in your casing. Good luck!

Afternoon everyone, I just foudn this place because I was looking for a little nest of people to talk about some geom stuff with, but this looks like a good place to hand out either way. Tech wise I am an old Unix person - mainly old BSD and NextStep. Non tech wise I dabble in music and club promotion on the goth/alrenative scene, and fly aeroplanes wwhen the weather is good. Which isn't very often in the UK! I get the impression that most of the ppl here are europeans, which is good, as I hate missing out on furm discussions due to time difference! :-)

Hihi welcome :\)

You seem to have a diverse range of interests! And yes we have a lot of Europeans here. But all are welcome. =)

There aren't a lot of people here, but if you have questions about geom stuff just ask or email me (see my profile for address).

Cya!

Aha... I just realised that repliees to things I post here dont get emailed to me, hence I didn't find this until now :-) Doh! Am going to try and find time to dive into the geom wworld again soon. I did sent my last set of patches for geom_mirror to pjd, but he suggested a different way to do it, so am going to have to re-write them a bit.
