Most of us use Windows on their computers. Some have experience with GNU/Linux though, and others use GNU/Linux everyday on their computers. Did you try any of these operating systems, and if so what are your experiences with them?

I'm using FreeBSD on my desktop for quite some time, about 4 years now. My experiences are varied. FreeBSD is used mostly on servers and therefore lacks some desktop functionality which Linux offers. I like the ports-system which allows me to install and upgrade software without much effort. But i dislike the lack of proper flash support and the limited opportunity to play games. Wine does run a few games, but tends to be slow, and most games i like are unsupported.

For this reason, i still use a Windows PC for my games. Though i hope the day will come that this is not needed anymore, for example when Wine is a mature product and runs some 95% of all (modern) games. :\)

I am using Gentoo at the moment, but i'd like to try out Ubuntu Feasty Fawn, heard good things about it. I have no experience with any of the BSD's. How is running BSD on the desktop?

BSD is okay, but for strictly desktop use you will probably like Ubuntu Feasty Fawn more. Binary utilities such as nVidia drivers, Macromedia flash and other stuff just runs better on native linux.
